Kuenga Dem

Accredited Social Worker supporting individuals, couples, children and families

Qualifications: Master of Social Work, Master in Counselling, Diploma in Contemplative Psychotherapy

Kuenga is an Accredited Social Worker known for her warm, grounded presence and her focus on helping clients understand and transform the emotional patterns that shape how they think, feel, and relate to others. She holds a Master of Social Work and a Master of Counselling, and her work is deeply rooted in attachment theory, bringing a nuanced understanding of how emotional experiences influence relationships and inner wellbeing. Kuenga is trained in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) for individuals, couples, and families. While EFT forms the foundation of her work, she thoughtfully integrates approaches such as Internal Family Systems (IFS), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Narrative Therapy, and somatic therapy and mindfulness-based practices to meet each client’s unique needs.

With over 13 years of experience across school settings, community allied health practices and Relationships Australia, Kuenga brings a wealth of experience to her work with individuals, couples, children, and families. She has supported clients through relationship distress, communication difficulties, grief and loss, trauma, parenting challenges, and separation. This experience allows her to attune closely to each person’s unique story while offering a steady, thoughtful, and compassionate presence. She understands how emotional patterns can show up in relationships, emotional reactivity, self-criticism, anxiety, or a sense of feeling stuck.

Using a gentle, trauma-informed and collaborative approach, Kuenga supports clients to slow down, make sense of their inner experiences, and discover new ways of responding that foster greater connection, security, and self-understanding. She is particularly passionate about working with couples, helping them move out of cycles of disconnection and conflict and toward deeper emotional closeness and trust. Kuenga also has extensive experience supporting children and adolescents, including those experiencing anxiety, food allergy-related anxiety, and neurodivergence, and works closely with parents to build more connected, confident, and attuned relationships within the family.
