Depression
You are not alone. Depression can affect anyone, and with the right support, recovery is possible.
Understanding Depression
Life is full of ups and downs. But when the lows become more frequent, more intense, or harder to shake, you may be experiencing depression. Depression is different to ordinary sadness; it doesn't always have a clear cause, and it can affect anyone regardless of age, life circumstances, or background.
Depression presents itself through a wide range of symptoms, and each person may encounter a unique combination. What's important to know is that depression is treatable, and seeking support is a sign of strength.
Common Symptoms
- Persistent low mood or sadness
- Loss of interest or pleasure in activities
- Fatigue or low energy
- Changes in sleep patterns, such as insomnia or sleeping too much
- Changes in appetite and weight
- Difficulty concentrating or making decisions
- Feelings of worthlessness or hopelessness
- Withdrawal from social groups
- Recurrent thoughts of death or suicide
How It Can Affect You
Depression often makes the simplest tasks feel monumental. You may find yourself withdrawing from the people you care about, losing motivation for work or hobbies, or feeling disconnected from yourself and your life. Relationships can strain under the weight of unexplained irritability or emotional absence.
Many people experience a sense of emptiness or of going through the motions without truly living. Over time, untreated depression can affect your physical health, your sense of identity, and your ability to find meaning and purpose.
